Forest Health Special- Eastern WA Emphasis, Sept. 17th

A Summer in Review – Forest Health Special

Eastern Washington Emphasis

This summer has been another interesting summer for forest health concerns in Eastern Washington. With a dry spring, wet early summer, followed by the long dry period of late summer, temperature and moisture for this part of the state has been all over the board. All of us have probably seen a dead or dying tree that look alive and healthy the year before. Whether your goals are growing trees for timber, maintain an aesthetically pleasing and healthy forest ecosystem, or are just generally curious, come sit down with WSU Northeastern Extension and Melissa Fischer, DNR Entomologist for Eastern Washington, for a review of the big and small forest health issues that she has observed throughout her work this summer. We will cover as many of the pest and pathogens that affected our forest this summer, the common symptoms and signs that landowners can use to identify these disturbance agents, and factors involved in their spread.
